Baseball is such an old sport that its hard to have a “first” anything during any given game.
Chances are someone, somewhere had done it before during their 100+ year history – or at least you would think.
Recently, Joey Votto of the Cincinnati Reds dispelled such a notion; and consequently left baseball fans in disbelief once they realized what had happened.
Perhaps he didn’t know the count himself, or he just had the sixth sense that no one was paying attention to the game, but Votto took first base on just 3 balls. It was the bottom of the seventh, and it wasn’t like the game was out of hand, but somehow no one notices.
In this day and age its hard to believe that he got away with it, but the video below proves it: the game was so uninteresting that the umps, nor the pitcher, even knew the count anymore.
Thats gotta be a first, right?
