Dana White has to be happy with his crop of potential stars. Ronda Rousey has crossed-over into mainstream success and Conor McGregor can do the same with a win at UFC 189. Neither of them will draw like a potential CM Punk debut though.
Punk is now a legend in pro wrestling circles and the curiosity around his MMA prowess paired with a legit title fight is enough to break UFC PPV records.
Dana White gave his thoughts on Punk’s training and estimated debut date to TMZSports:
“The respect that this guy has earned from his team, his coaches, he’s a dog” Dana said. “He actually just moved to Milwaukee so he can be closer to training and he’s committed to this thing. The guy’s an absolute stud and a joy to work with… He’s looking phenomenal.
He can call me and when he’s ready to fight, he calls me and it’s on, man. I’m thinking early next year.”
We’ve now heard this exact period of time from Dana, CM Punk’s trainer and Punk himself. It looks like one of the early-2016 Las Vegas PPV cards is where Punk will make his debut. I hope everyone has vacation time saved up for next January/February.
