Jimmy Butler has taken another step in his ascension up the ladder of NBA stardom.
Days after signing a $92 million extension with the Bulls, Butler was invited to the USA basketball minicamp in Las Vegas according to the Chicago Tribune.
Butler will be invited to next month’s minicamp in Las Vegas, according to an ESPN.com report. The team that will represent the United States at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro will be culled from the minicamp.
Tom Thibodeau is an assistant coach for Duke’s Mike Krzyzewski in the program.
Derrick Rose remains in the pool of roughly 40 players for USA Basketball. Rose has won two gold medals in World Championships but has yet to play in an Olympics.
The mini-camp will run from Aug. 11-13.
