For all of the complaining and smarking that fans do when it comes to the WWE, sometimes the company just gets everything right. The latest example of the company nailing a pay-per-view? Last night’s Battleground, which saw the return of a legend, an instant classic, and an overall great card. Let’s take a look at what went down!
Welcome to Tombstone City
The main event of Battleground pitted WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins against the Beast Incarnate Brock Lesnar. In case you’ve been living under a rock since Wrestlemania, Lesnar lost the title without being pinned or submitted after Rollins cashed in at Wrestlemania. Needless to say, the Beast was out for some revenge at Battleground, and boy did he find revenge alright.
Rollins is out first and he screams that this is his WWE before Lesnar makes his way out. As the Beast stalks the ring, Michael Cole tells us that Brock Lesnar has not been pinned or submitted in WWE in over two and a half years, which is insane.
The crowd breaks into a loud ‘Suplex City’ chant as the bell rings and we’re underway. Lesnar picks Rollins up and slams in the corner hitting some vicious shoulder blocks into Rollins before trying to suplex the Champ. Rollins hits some elbows and breaks the hold before escaping the ring.
Lesnar laughs and then starts chasing Rollins around. Rollins tries to beat him as he gets into the ring but the Beast just fights through it and tries to suplex Rollins. The Champ holds the ropes before hitting a kick to Lesnar’s midsection and then multiple kicks to his hamstrings.
Lesnar just gets angry and counters into an F-5 attempt but Rollins fights out of it and heads up top.
Big mistake.
Lesnar catches the Champ and hits the first of many, many suplexes. Welcome to Suplex City Seth.
One suplex, two suplex, three suplex, four. Let’s keep this going til he can’t take anymore.
Lesnar’s fifth suplex sends Rollins literally flying out of the ring and he struggles to his feet as Lesnar dances in the ring. Rollins has already had enough and he grabs his title and tries to escape in the crowd.
Yeah that isn’t happening. Lesnar HURDLES the freaking barricade and then throws Rollins over it back towards the ring like the Champ weighs 25 pounds.
Lesnar picks Rollins up and hits another suplex and the crowd has now begun counting after each one. Lesnar just stalks Rollins and hits him with an elbow before again hopping in the center of the ring. He throws Rollins into the turnbuckle and goes for another suplex but Rollins lands on his feet!
Rollins hits a kick to the face then a few to the hamstrings before taking Lesnar down with a chop block. He continues to kick Lesnar in the face but Brock just takes each kick and continues to get to his feet. Rollins goes for a Pedigree but Lesnar counters and tries an F-5, yet Rollins counters again.
Rollins chop blocks Lesnar then hits a flying kneeto his back to send him to the outside! Rollins hits a suicide dive and Lesnar doesn’t even drop! Rollins hits ANOTHER and Lesnar is still up! Rollins goes for a third and Lesnar meets him in the middle of the ring and hits a belly-to-belly suplex on the Champ.
Now Lesnar is even angrier and Rollins can’t get to his feet. Lesnar suplexes Rollins but doesn’t release. Then again. And yet another. We’re now up to 10 suplexes and things are looking bleak for the Champ.
Another suplex takes us to 11 and Lesnar looks like he’s about ready to finish this thing off. He slaps Rollins across the face and hits another suplex for an even dozen. Rollins apparently has a death wish because he slaps Lesnar, which just gets him his 13th suplex of the night.
Lesnar picks up Rollins and hitsn a F-5 and that should be it. 1…2… GONG!
THE LIGHTS ARE OUT!
GONG!
THE LIGHTS ARE BACK AND THE UNDERTAKER IS IN THE RING WITH BROCK LESNAR! JLAHSDGLJASDHGLJSADHGLJAHDSGJASDGL I HAVE CHILLS RIGHT NOW! ABSOLUTE CHILLS!
Lesnar is in shock and he tries to hit Taker but the Dead Man counters! Taker goes for a chokeslam but Lesnar counters into an F-5 attempt, so Taker takes him out with a big kick!
I CAN’T BELIEVE I’M SAYING THINGS LIKE THIS BUT TAKER HITS LESNAR WITH A MASSIVE CHOKESLAM!
I am marking out right now as Taker stalks Lesnar and HITS A TOMBSTONE ON THE BEAST!
Lesnar starts to get back to his feet, so Taker reminds us all what time it is.
That’s right, it’s rest in peace time. Taker picks Lesnar up again and hits another Tombstone on Lesnar! Paul Heyman sums things up perfectly as we hear him yell “OH MY GOD!” from ringside and the crowd is going absolutely insane!
Taker leaves the arena and THE DEAD MAN IS BACK FOR SOME WRESTLEMANIA REVENGE!
All I can say is wow. Now THAT is how you do a swerve finish. Taker looks to be in absolutely great shape and suddenly I’m giddy at the thought of the Dead Man and Lesnar going at it at SummerSlam. Is it August yet?!
