The Wyatt Family Is Back
One of the most intriguing feuds heading into Battleground was the psychological warfare being raged between Bray Wyatt and Roman Reigns. Could these two tell their story in the middle of the ring instead of just during pre-taped promos?
Reigns starts things off by hitting a shoulder tackle on Wyatt, who pops right back up like nothing happened. The Samoan begins to just absolutely beat Wyatt down, forcing the ref to separate the two. Reigns has this crazed look on his face of pure anger and he’s letting it out by wailing away on Wyatt.
For his part, Wyatt makes a comeback and shows some physicality of his own. Lost in all the talk about his promos and characters is the fact that Wyatt is one of the best physical wrestlers in the company today. These two are basically having a hoss fight and it’s just perfect.
Reigns tries to hit Wyatt with a spear on the outside, but Bray dodges it and the big guy literally spears through the steel steps ringside. Wyatt starts pointing at his brain to let everyone know how much smarter he is than his opponent and now the Eater of Worlds is picking Reigns apart and playing to the crowd the entire time.
Reigns starts fighting back and eventually the two begin trading punches on the apron. Wyatt grabs Reigns for a DDT, and jumps off the apron, slamming Reigns head into the mat along the way.
The ref begins to make a count but Reigns beats it and Wyatt locks him into a sleeper hold. While doing that he starts yelling at the crowd that Reigns has failed them and then randomly starts thanking someone in the heavens for everything which yeah, crazy overload.
Reigns eventually breaks the hold and starts unloading kicks and punches before hitting a flying clothesline. He picks Wyatt up and drops him with a couple of suplexes and now Reigns is amped up. He tries to hit Wyatt with his patented flying double-kick but Wyatt counters with an AWESOME clothesline!
This causes the crowd to start chanting for Wyatt as he hits a splash to Reigns on the floor and gets a near-fall in the ring. He goes for a top rope suplex on Reigns but the bug dog powers out and hits a sit-down powerbomb for the near-fall.
Reigns goes for a Superman Punch but Wyatt catches him and tries to hit Sister Abigail, but Reigns bails to the outside and finally hits his double kick. Back in the ring Reigns finally hits a Superman Punch for a near-fall and the crowd is eating this match up. I can’t really blame them this match has been everything we hoped it would be and more.
Reigns tries to hit a spear but Wyatt counters with a kick, to which Reigns just yells and tries to hit another Spear before Wyatt again counters this time with a massive clothesline for the near-fall.
What a sequence!
And just in case things weren’t already awesome, Wyatt hits his patented upside-down crab walk and tries to hit Sister Abigail. Reigns counters with a Somoan drop and Wyatt wisely rolls out of the ring.
Wyatt tosses Reigns into the barricade and then grabs two chairs, but Reigns counters and takes him down. Reigns tosses both chairs into the ring and then two more. The ref looks away to clear the ring and a hooded man attacks Reigns with a superkick.
Wyatt rolls him back into the ring and hits Sister Abigail for the 1-2-3! Wyatt looks surprised by the help but happy and our hooded mysery man gets in the ring and… IT’S LUKE HARPER!
WYATT FAMILY BACK?!
Now THIS is an awesome development in this rivalry. I can definitely get on board with Roman Reigns feuding with the re-formed Wyatt Family!
