Bernard Hopkins is finally ready to say farewell to the inside of the boxing ring, but he’ll attempt to win one more title on his way out.
Hopkins told USA TODAY Sports on Tuesday that negotiations are underway for a bout against WBO super middleweight champion Arthur Abraham.
I’m ready to take a step back into a division I jumped over and that’s the super middleweight division,” said Hopkins, who held the lineal title at 160 and 175 pounds. “And it would only be with a guy like Arthur Abraham who’s credible, not only in the States but in his country … and a really gritty guy with an awkward Winky Wright type of shell but more active I think.”
Hopkins (55-7-2, 32 KOs) said the fight — being discussed for “the top of next year” — is “absolutely” going to get done.
