Former NFL and Detroit Lions quarterback Erik Kramer shot himself in what is believed to be a suicide attempt, according to NBC News.
Police were called to a motel in Los Angeles where they found a man who suffered a gunshot wound. Authorities say Kramer’s wound is not life-threatening.
His ex-wife blamed his time in the NFL for his depression.
“He is a very amazing man, a beautiful soul, but he has suffered depression since he was with the Bears,” Marshawn Kramer said. “I can promise you he is not the same man I married.”
In 1991 Kramer led the Lions to a 12-4 record and their first playoff victory since the 1950s.
