Anquan Boldin Wants to Know Why a Cop Shot & Killed His Cousin

Anquan Boldin

San Francisco 49ers Anquan Boldin has been playing with a heavy heart ever since hearing the passing of his cousin Corey Jones.

Jones, was awaiting for a tow truck on the side of a highway in Florida when he was shot three times by a plainclothes officer. Boldin still wants to know what his cousin did to deserve that.

“How do you go from waiting for help on the side of the road to dead?” Boldin asked Tuesday. “For me, that doesn’t add up.”

“His granddad and my granddad are brothers,” Boldin said. “That’s a cousin I’ve known his entire life. … Every Sunday you find him in church playing the drums. I think if you talk to anybody, you understand that he was just a good kid all around, which only adds more to the frustration of, ‘How does this happen?’
What makes this more strange is that the officer in question Nouman Raja pulled over in an unidentified van to see if the vehicle was an abandoned vehicle at 3:15 am. That’s just a bit suspect and quite honestly spooky to do that during that time of night. Fast forward, Jones is dead.
According to the police report, Raja claims “Jones suddenly pulled out a fire arm.” Jones phone log indicates contacting a tow truck, so what was Raja’s intent to begin with? Did Raja ask to assist Jones or confront him?
Lots of questions need to be answered for Boldin to grieve peacefully about his close cousin’s death, but it’s difficult when you don’t know what happened that night.
“I find it hard to grieve when you don’t know,” he said. “And at this point, that’s all my family’s asking for – the questions that have yet to be answered. That’s the least you can do.”
Hopefully for Boldin and his family’s sake, the police give them the truth of what occurred the night of Corey Jones’ death.
