What kind of year do you expect the New York Knicks to have? After finishing last season with a depressing 65-17 record, second year coach Derek Fisher sees the light at the end of the tunnel. Fisher is optimistic about the upcoming season and thinks this year’s outcome will be much better. Despite having a roster that seems to be Carmelo Anthony and the other guys, coach Fisher thinks the team has made quality moves and throws out the notion that they are in rebuild mode.
“We signed quality veteran players because we’re trying to win right now. If rebuilding for us is based on the fact that we don’t have a certain caliber of player on our roster quote-unquote other than Carmelo, so people assume that we’re rebuilding,” he said. “But was Atlanta rebuilding last year when they didn’t have that quote-unquote player on their roster?”
I see where Fisher was going with this statement but I can’t really agree with him. He seemed to overlook the fact that the Hawks had 4 All-Stars on their roster, at best the Knicks have one with Melo. He also needs to mention that the Hawks continue to make the playoffs year after year despite their roster lacking a star player.
I think this season is all on Carmelo’s back. The Knicks will go as he goes. If he is able to stay healthy and put up MVP caliber numbers, the Knicks will be fine. The Eastern Conference is better than past years but 40-45 wins probably gets them back in the playoffs.
