Seems odd, only because the NFL has punished players for a lot less, but I think Manziel got a pass because the cops gave him a pass. The cops even though there appeared to be evidence to take Manziel in decided to let him and his girlfriend go.
There is a lot of inconsistency in the NFL punishment of players, this is just another of example. Has nothing to do with Manziel, but more with the NFL not being able to decide who is and isn’t a punishable offense.
#NFL review of @JManziel2 incident concludes there's no basis for disciplinary action from league under personal conduct policy

Here is what Manziel’s girlfriend had to say on the day of the incident.
Cops say Crowley told them Johnny had shoved her head against the glass of the car during an argument and then stated, “Mr. Manziel hit her a couple times in the car.”
Cops took photos of Crowley’s injury … but say the “friction burn” on her wrist was the result of Manziel grabbing her wrist to keep her in the car.
Manziel has been named the starter for the rest of the season.
