The Jets are facing the Dallas Cowboys this weekend with their playoff livelihood hanging in the balance. Head coach Todd Bowles is well aware of those implications and he knows that to stop the Cowboys you have to contain one man.
“Dez Bryant being slow is like LeBron being slow,” Bowles said. “You’re going to get something from him. You’re going to get something out of him. He’s a great player. You never slow down, you just find different ways to beat people. We expect the best Dez Bryant we’re going to see.”
Athletically, the Dez to LeBron comparisons aren’t farfetched, but in terms of impact on a game it’s hard to say that a WR is as important as someone who can willing grab the ball on every possession. Given the Cowboys injury problems Bowles may be referring to Bryant being the most dangerous playmaker on the field for the Cowboys, which would then make more sense.
Dez will have to first show that he’s 100%. A mixture of mediocre QB play & a lingering foot injury has slowed Dez in recent weeks, but Bowles says the Jets can’t rely on that.
“He’s so athletic and he does enough that at 90 percent, he’s better than 90 percent of the receivers, at 80 percent, he’s better than 90 percent of the receivers,” Bowles said. “We expect him to be at 100 percent, and we expect to play the best Dez Bryant we know we’re going to see.”
