Just when it appeared that Andy Dalton was starting to figure things out, the veteran quarterback went down today with a fractured thumb.
Here's what I'm told about Andy Dalton's fractured thumb: likely season ending, best case scenario is playoffs, per multiple team sources.

On the season, Dalton has a touchdown to interception ratio of 25:7 to go along with 3,250 yards and a quarterback rating of 106.2.
Despite their loss today to Pittsburgh, the Bengals are still sitting pretty at 10-3 atop of the AFC North. With that being said, their Super Bowl aspirations may lie in the hands of former Alabama great, AJ McCarron.
McCarron has never started in a NFL game and before today’s contest, he only has attempted five passes.
When Dalton went down today, McCarron showed signs of being capable of carrying the load moving forward. He finished the day completing 22-of-32 of his passes, while throwing for 280 yards to go along with two touchdowns and two interceptions.
After the game, McCarron compared his situation to some quarterback.
“You gotta love pressured moments. That’s what makes you great, it’s when the great ones really shine. I guess Tom Brady was in the same situation when he had the opportunity,” McCarron said.
No one truly knows how McCarron will perform, but one things for sure, he’ll be under a very tight microscope.
