Russell Westbrook is a beast on the court, his will to win often made him look like a selfish player but that etiquette seems to fade away slowly as people are starting to understand he wants to win above all. Off the court, you can’t question the good heart of Westbrook, he participates in a lot of community services and recently won the NBA Cares Community Assist Award for his work towards giving back to the community.
You can add to that, the donation he just gave to his alma mater, UCLA for the construction of the basketball center. Even though the financial amount was not revealed, it was the largest ever donation made by an ex-player. Westbrook downplayed the donation by highlighting the good times he spent on campus.
“I loved my time at UCLA and jumped at the opportunity to give back to the University that provided me with amazing opportunities and great memories,” Westbrook said in the statement. “I am truly honored to be part of the legacy that is Bruin basketball.”
The practice floor will be named after Russell Westbrook and the athletic director, Dan Guerrero, had nothing but praise for the Thunder point guard.
“Russell himself is an inspiration,” Athletic Director Dan Guerrero said. “We could not be more proud of his leadership both on and off the court since he left Westwood, and I know the Bruin faithful will be excited to welcome him back home next month and thank him for this tremendous gift.”
I will go and assume that Westbrook will have free access to the Russell Westbrook court for his summer workouts.
