It looks like Sandra Bland may get some justice after all.
The Texas state trooper who arrested Sandra Bland after a traffic stop was fired Wednesday after being charged with perjury for lying about the details of the stop, after the black woman died three days later in jail.
Bland — who was from Chicago — was found hanged in her cell at the Waller County jail.
Trooper Brian Encinia claimed in an affidavit that Bland was “combative and uncooperative” after he pulled her over and ordered her out of her car.
It was that affidavit that allowed the grand jury to charge Encinia with perjury, special prosecutor Shawn McDonald said Wednesday night.
The Texas Department of Public Safety is expected to fire Encinia, who has been on paid desk duty since Bland was found dead in her cell.
