San Antonio Spurs head coach Greg Popovich was selected to coach the West in this year 2016 NBA All-Star Game. This will be the 4th time Popovich has been selected for the game as his Spurs are 2nd in the western conference with a 36-7 record.
He was selected over the Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr as the Warriors hold the leagues best record 41-4. Popovich says it feels awesome to coach the game once again:
“It’s a pretty awesome feeling to know that you’re going to be in the locker room with some of the best athletes in the world,” Popovich told reporters Wednesday. “That’s pretty humbling. It’s kind of cool.”
This may be a surprise to some people as the Warriors just dismantled the Spurs by 30 points on Monday. To a certain extent its a snub to assistant coach Luke Walton who replaced Kerr for majority of the season while he recovered from back surgery.
