I use to take a lot a psychology classes with I was in college and one thing they use to stress is that if you try to change a person from whom they are it is going to turn out bad.
The person has to want to change, they can’t be FORCED to change. If you force them you will never get the desired results.
People want Manziel to change, but Manziel doesn’t want to change. Maybe just letting him be himself will allow him to be the best quarterback he can possibly be.
Besides the incident with his girlfriend in the car (which was disturbing but he was eventually cleared by police or NFL) nothing he is doing is illegal. Partying isn’t illegal, coming drunk to practice, being on time and other things are issues, but that could be a product of him not wanting to be in Cleveland. What Manziel is doing in his free time isn’t unusual, the spotlight is just greater on him. There are plenty of NFL players who party, drink, do drugs and still perform at a high level when Sunday comes along, it is part of their routine.
I think it is time for people to stop trying to make Manziel into Tebow. He is either going to crash and burn or succeed by being himself, if he wants to change how he lives his life, that is on him, not us.
