Around the league players are not able to reach contract agreements with their teams and they are being hit with the franchise tag. Josh Norman is another one of those players who went against the grain, and for Norman it’s about to pay off big time. Norman spoke with the Charlotte Observer to share his thoughts about his current contract situation.
“I’m comfortable where I’m at trust and believe. If I’ve waited this long I can wait on them some more. Waiting got me where I need to be at the end of the day. Waiting is my specialty.”
The Panthers initially offered Norman around $7 million per year last season, but he decided to wait it out and now he is about to cash in. With the franchise tag Norman is set to make just under $14 million, but he still wants to get a long term deal done.
In football it’s tough to not take a deal that is being offered since contracts are not guaranteed. You have to commend athletes for fighting for what they are worth because owners can sign you for the price that they think you are worth, and cut you without further notice. What Norman just pulled off could possibly set a trend if athletes are willing to bet on themselves instead of just taking the first deal thrown on the table.
