According to the San Francisco Chronicle, 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick met with Denver Broncos general manager John Elway at Elway’s home this past Thursday. Kap recently had his $11.9 million base salary guaranteed, which means the 49ers will not release him. However, Kap does have permission to seek a trade.
The Broncos are in need of a permanent solution at quarterback. Mark Sanchez is the only qb on the roster with any NFL game experience. Kap presents an interesting case for the defending champs. He’s had recent success and took the 49ers to the Super Bowl. The last couple years has seen a decline in play but a new offense that suits his skill set and a change of scenery might be what he needs. The Broncos return the defense that won it all last year. They need a qb that won’t put them in negative situations, and if Kap can do that, he will also have good weapons on offense to work with.
The Broncos would have to meet the 49ers demands in a trade and work on creating cap space, but if Elway likes what he heard from Kap, this could happen.
