In this country we talk about rights and freedoms a lot.
Right to carry guns, freedom of speech, innocent until proven guilty and many more things. If you are aligned with the majority then people leave you alone, but when you exercise your freedoms and rights about things that majority doesn’t like then there is backlash.
There is no law that says you have to stand during the national anthem. There are issues in this country that any sane person can see doesn’t match up with the words in the anthem.
It is customary to stand, but as an American you have the right to do whatever you want when the anthem is played as long as it isn’t causing a disturbance.
Colin Kaepernick chose to sit. He wasn’t bothering anyone, but it was reported by PFT last night and the 49ers had to make a statement.
“The national anthem is and always will be a special part of the pre-game ceremony,” the team said in a statement issued to PFT. “It is an opportunity to honor our country and reflect on the great liberties we are afforded as its citizens. In respecting such American principles as freedom of religion and freedom of expression, we recognize the right of an individual to choose to participate, or not, in our celebration of the national anthem.”
Kaepernick has been outspoken about social and racism in our country. He explains why he is sitting here. If you truly believe in freedom and rights, then you won’t have a problem with Kaepernick.
