If it were possible to win a gold medal for biggest sore loser, Hope Solo is in first place. The U.S women’s soccer team goalie unleashed a salty rant after the highly favored American team was upset by Sweden in the Olympic quarterfinals Friday.
Instead of giving credit where it was due, Solo highlighted the Swedish squad as a “bunch of cowards” via The Business Insider.
“I thought that we played a courageous game,” Solo told reporters after the shocking defeat. “I thought we had many opportunities on goal. I think we showed a lot of heart. We came back from a goal down. I’m very proud of this team.”
“But I also think we played a bunch of cowards,” Solo added.
It might’ve been in her best interest to stop there, but she also added:
“The best team did not win today. I strongly believe that. I think you saw American heart. You saw us give everything we had today.”
Sweden coach Pia Sundhage, who also coached U.S national team from 2008-2012 and won two gold medals, fired back at the former goal keeper.
“I don’t give a crap. I’m going to Rio, she’s going home”
Ouch.
