Derek Jeter is taking The Players Tribune (TPT) to even bigger heights, signing on to develop a movie about a former NFL players triumph over a hard life.
The project being produced in partnership with Magic Hour Productions — will be the first movie from the former Yankee’s media company per reports.
TPT has optioned the rights to former NFL player Vernon Turner’s life story. Turner, who played professional football in the ’90s with the Buffalo Bills, L.A. Rams, Detroit Lions and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, contributed a story called “Letter to my Younger Self” to TPT in May that speaks about his upbringing and witnessing his mother’s drug use.
“I’m very excited to join forces with The Players’ Tribune again,” says Turner. “The feedback I received after publishing my story on TPT was overwhelming, and I’m looking forward to this next chapter and sharing my story in more detail on the screen.”
“The Players’ Tribune is an incubator of compelling content, and we actively seek stories that resonate with fans and can translate into meaningful programming,” says Jaymee Messler, president of TPT. “We are excited about exploring and expanding into other mediums. Vernon’s story is incredibly powerful and we’re looking forward to developing the film with the same commitment to robust storytelling that has made TPT so successful.”
The project is not currently set up with a studio or distributor — but will be back by super agency CAA.
