The biggest question looming in the Panthers’ locker room all week was whether or not Cam Newton would be on the field for Monday night’s contest against Tampa Bay.
That question was answered this afternoon as the reigning league MVP was ruled out for the game. Newton has not practiced since suffering a concussion in the fourth quarter of last week’s game against the Falcons. He has remained in the league’s concussion protocol since then.
Backup quarterback Derek Anderson will get the start. Anderson has fared well against the Bucs, going 2-0 in Cam’s absence back in 2014. Other players ruled out for Monday include Michael Oher, Jonathan Stewart, Vernon Butler, and James Bradberry. Mike Tolbert, Thomas Davis, and Charles Johnson are listed as questionable.
