I don’t think anyone is surprised by this.
The surprise would have been if Gilbert wasn’t a Donald Trump supporter.
Capping his latest campaign swing through Michigan, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump followed up a noisy public event in Novi on Friday afternoon with what was reported as a private big-dollar fundraiser in downtown Detroit hosted by Quicken Loans billionaire, and Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert.
With police cars and Secret Service agents ringing the Gilbert-owned Chrysler House building in Detroit’s financial district just west of Campus Martius Park — and encircling the adjacent former Federal Reserve bank building, also owned by Gilbert, whose second floor is leased by the Free Press — Trump’s motorcade was whisked through a freight entrance shortly after 7 p.m.
Campaign officials stationed inside the Chrysler House lobby were mum about the event, and reporters were kept well away from both Trump and the supporters who attended what was said to be a high-ticket-per-plate event.
Donald Trump caters to people like Dan Gilbert. For PR reasons I can see why Gilbert didn’t want the information out to the public, but it did anyway.
