The NFL is choking all the creativity out of its players, so you hate to see a coach do the same to someone who is doing something utterly harmless.
The “keep eating” gesture isn’t a taunt and it has nothing to do with the opponent at all, but Jason Garrett in a very subtle way wants Ezekiel Elliott to tone it down.
Here is what Garrett had to say about Zeke being “careful” on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas.
“Sometimes you just have to be careful with gestures that you make on the field,” Garrett said. “And as much as anything else, you embrace the enthusiasm and passion, you just want to keep it focused.”
“And it was certainly focused for him all throughout the game yesterday.”
So you didn’t tell him to cut it out?
“No. Not at all. Just be focused and channel that stuff in,” Garrett said.
I understand Garrett doesn’t want to get penalties, but Zeke has been doing this for years, this isn’t new and has never been penalized for it. Let that man eat.
