The Miami HEAT as a team made it clear that their stance on protesting racial injustices was to lock arms prior to every game this season. During the HEAT’s final preseason game against the 76ers, the anthem singer, Denasia Lawrence, knelt while wearing a Black Lives Matter shirt.
The 76ers organization received huge backlash when they prevented Sevyn Streeter from singing the anthem when he showed up to the arena in a ‘We Matter’ shirt. On Thursday night, Justise Winslow decided he would do more than just lock arms with his teammates. Winslow tweeted a picture of himself and Sixers center, Jerami Grant with their fists raised with the caption ‘We Matter’.
More athletes are speaking out on the matter. The HEAT organization has stayed mum on Winslow’s decision to do more than lock arms with teammates.
