I don’t want to say that the Redskins forced DeSean Jackson to make a statement about something that didn’t need a statement, but there certainly was a discussion after he decided to wear his police tape cleats.
You shouldn’t have to try to appease anyone when you are speaking about racial injustice and police brutality, but that is what Jackson did when this was released through the team.
“Today is the start of my attempts to be part of a solution and start dialogue about the senseless killings of both citizens and police,” Jackson said in the statement. “I have chosen to wear cleats in pregame today to use my platform as a pro athlete to add to this discussion. This isn’t meant to be any kind of protest against the good men and women in law enforcement in this country. I just want to express my concern in a peaceful and productive way about issues that are currently impacting our country.”
What is more interesting is while the Redskins said they supported Jackson, they made it clear that they support law enforcement much more.
“We stand in support of both DeSean and the law enforcement community,” the team said. “We have great respect for law enforcement and the sacrifices they make each and every day to protect and serve our communities. We continue to have open dialogue with our players about issues that are important to them and support their efforts to bring awareness to those issues when done in a responsible manner.”
What exactly is a responsible manner?
Once again these are white people trying to dictate and orchestrate what and when black people protest and speak on injustices in society.
Intelligent people don’t need statements to understand the focus should be on crooked cops and racist people, but I guess when the boss wants a statement, then statements will be made.
If you want DeSean Jackson’s true feelings just refer back to his original statement about why he is wearing the cleats, not the one written by a PR person.
