Ten police officers from the Round Lake police department are suing for $1mil after their body cameras recorded them using the bathroom. The recordings show the officers genitals and show private actions.
The Chicago Tribune reports the lawsuits says cameras recorded thousands of ‘highly offensive and voyeuristic intrusions,’ including video that showed officers’ genitals.
The officers were humiliated/upset and each of them are seeking $100,000. An officer, Dominic Izzo realized the cameras were recording when they were off or on sleep mode. This violated the police department’s policy to not use the cameras anywhere where a reasonable expectation of privacy exists, such as a bathroom, or activities not related to law enforcement.
Police Chief George Filenko and deputy chief Daniel Burch were named in the lawsuit because they are the only people with full access to the video review system.
Obviously, the officers also asked for the department to due away with body cameras. Round Lake is a suburb of Chicago so keep that in mind. More police departments are using cameras for transparency even though they aren’t that transparent with them anyway.
If they were at a traffic stop, they’d somehow manage to turn off the cameras.
Daily Mail retrieved video of some of those recorded moments.
