Former NBA star Baron Davis is partnering with the Black Santa Company and Fabolous’ Fabolous Way Foundation to host a toy drive that will serve to give over $30,000 worth of gifts to inner-city youth. In an interview with CBS Sports Radio’s Rahul Lal, Davis touched on the toy drive and his alma mater (UCLA) chances of winning the national title.
In discussing the partnership with Fab and the toy drive, Davis said:
Us athletes are always in the giving spirit and that’s reflected a lot. A lot of the time, rappers don’t always get credit for the work they do [in the communities]. They’re talked about for their lyrics and things like that but a lot of these dudes are in the neighborhood inspiring people and helping people and that’s what we want to do. We just want to serve the community, give back and support each other with all our causes and entrepreneurial efforts.
Have to agree with Davis there. The negatives of the hip hop community often lead the mainstream media, it’s good to bring awareness to the work being done at the community level.
Davis also dished about his former college squad, UCLA and is excited about their prospects, he said:
I think it’s great. We’ve got a great young team and some great guards. You can win when you have great guard play in the tournament and we just got to keep it up. I love what I’m seeing out there.
We just got to keep it up. Lonzo Ball is good, [Bryce] Alford is a senior, we got a whole squad, man. We’ll be number one in the country soon, for sure.
The UCLA Bruins are currently ranked #2 in the nation and recently beat then top ranked Kentucky. As we head towards conference play, UCLA is looking like one of the teams that can make it to the Final Four.
