While reading this story, all I could think about was the Kevin Hart stand up special, where he joked about tossing his infant son off his back, because he was running from a Silverback Gorilla.
A Florida man made the worst business decision ever on Tuesday — running and abandoning his 5-year-old son during an attempt to shake the police because the boy couldn’t keep up per the Atlanta Journal Constitution.
Jerry McCabe, 27, was being pulled over by a police officer Tuesday in Pembroke Pines, but declined to oblige to the officer’s requests and kept driving, WPLG reports. McCabe weaved in and out of traffic before his front two tires blew out, so he ran with his 5-year-old son in tow, police said.
Police said the officer chased McCabe and could hear him yelling at the boy to keep up, but once they got to a barbed-wire fence, he ditched the boy and jumped over. The officer stopped and helped the child before leaving him with a nearby security guard and catching up with McCabe. Police said McCabe told officers he was taking the boy to get a physical to play football, and didn’t stop because he didn’t have a valid license and had weed in the car.
The cowardly McCabe was arrested and charged with driving with a suspended license, resisting arrest without violence, possession of marijuana, and fleeing with disregard of safety to persons or property.
The stain of leaving his son will likely loom larger than any jail sentence.
