We wrote about the possibility of Marshawn Lynch coming out of retirement and potentially joining the Oakland Raiders. Looks like this is closer to becoming a reality. MMQB’s Peter King is reporting that a source is saying:
He [Lynch] really wants to play for the Raiders. He also wants to do good things for his foundation in the area. This is a great chance to accomplish both things.
Lynch was a very productive back with Seattle and a year away from football could have given him a chance to get rejuvenated and replenish the tank. Now, the Seahawks control Lynch’s rights so they would either have to trade him or release him outright. It might be tough for the Seahawks to let Lynch go without getting something in return.
However, they may not want to play hardball. If Lynch is set on Oakland and that’s the only place he’ll go it’s probably best to just let that happen. According to King, Lynch is still very popular in the Seahawks locker room and the team’s management won’t want to upset current players by holding up the process. Stay tuned.
