Wide receiver Brandon Marshall wanted to be released from the New York Jets this offseason.
Last year the Jets were an abysmal 5-11 with Ryan Fitzpatrick as their quarterback.
They were last in the AFC East and one of the worst teams in the NFL last season.
Marshall was released and signed a two-year, $12 million contract with the New York Giants.
Marshall was on 101.9 FM”, “The FAN” in New York, saying it’s bad business that the Jets released Eric Decker and linebacker David Harris.
Marshall was asked how another veteran who wants out of a bad situation can do it, seeking a fresh start.
“Do what I did: Ask for a release, get out of there,” Marshall said, per Darryl Slater of NJ.com. “I just knew I couldn’t be in that environment. I think everyone knows the type of personality I am at this point in my career. I wouldn’t have made it through an entire season knowing that we didn’t have a chance. That’s all you want as a player. You just want a chance.”
The NFL has plenty of teams that aren’t contenders and if Marshall stayed with the Jets they’d still have zero shot at the playoffs better yet, the Super Bowl.
The Giants are coming off a playoff debacle versus the Packers which had Odell Beckham Jr. and other players out in Miami before the game to “clear their minds.”
Adding Marshall can make things very interesting this NFL season, come September the Giants can make a case for the NFC East title.
Giants training camp begins Friday, July 28, the work starts there we will see how bad Marshall wants it.
