Howard University kicked off their football season with the biggest point-spread upset in college football history.
The Bison were facing a 45 point spread against UNLV but pulled off a 43-40 victory behind Caylin Newton, younger brother of Carolina Panthers star QB Cam Newton.
The younger Newton, a freshman quarterback, amassed 140 yards passing and 190 yards rushing and accounted for 3 touchdowns. It looks like it runs in the family, no pun intended.
The roughly 40-point underdogs are an FCS team that defeated an FBS school on its home field.
When discussing Howard with Dan Steinberg in the summer, Caylin stated that Howard “is not a football school right now. It will be.”
