Today is national NFL cut down day. Some teams are still on the clock but so far, the Giants have been viciously cutting folks. The most impressive announcement is that Geno Smith is the backup quarterback.
If you’ve been keeping up with the news, the Giants have cut Devin Taylor, Mike Nugent, Josh Johnson, and Will Tye. One person that many thought would be cut is Geno Smith. Smith worked hard for this backup position and although he didn’t see himself as a backup considering his days back at West Virginia, it’s wonderful to see him back in the NFL. In addition, he’s also looking to redeem himself.
Smith is definitely ready for this job and perhaps his appearance during the Patriots versus Giants game is what solidified that he deserves this backup position. His stats were pretty impressive and let’s face it, Eli Manning is getting older so maybe Geno Smith could be the future of the team.
It wasn’t easy to go through rehab but he made it-ACL surgery is no joke. His fifth year will the league will prove to us that he deserves to be here.
There’s a lot that their third quarterback Davis Webb can learn from these two. Nonetheless, this season for the Giants will continue to be interesting as we get to see what Ben McAdoo will do with the team.
