Privileged Hockey Player Sexual Assault Sentence Postponed to Save His Internship

In what’s becoming a disgusting and disturbing trend, a white college athlete is receiving less than a slap on the wrist for sexual assault.

Chance Macdonald, a Queen’s University hockey player, plead guilty in April to common assault after being charged with the sexual assault and confinement of a teenage girl at a house party back in 2015. It is believed that the victim accepted the lesser plea deal to avoid the possibility of being disbelieved in court.

You may ask why Macdonald is just now being sentenced in September. Back in April, his attorney argued that a criminal conviction would hurt his four-month internship that is mandatory for continuing Queen’s University business students. Justice Allan Letourneau, who also played hockey and graduated from Queen’s, agreed waiting until last week to hand down the sentence.

Macdonald is sentenced to 88 days of intermittent jail on weekends and two years of probation.

He said the plea deal was “the right way to go in all respects.” He praised Macdonald on his excellence “in employment, in athletics, and in academics.” He noted, “I played extremely high-end hockey and I know the mob mentality that can exist in that atmosphere.” He told Macdonald he had significant confidence that “you will almost certainly never put yourself in this situation again,” describing the assault as a “fork in the road.”

The judge seems more concerned about Macdonald’s resume than the emotional scarring the victim is likely to be suffering.
