UCLA and Florida are the two schools on Chip Kelly’s extremely short list.
A source tells ESPN’s Mark Schlabach that Kelly met with UCLA on Tuesday regarding the school’s vacant head coaching position. He is expected to make a decision between UCLA and the University of Florida within the next few days.
Kelly, was fired from two NFL jobs in the past two years, is not expected to entertain any other college openings. Currently an analyst at ESPN, Kelly last coached at the college level in 2012 when he left Oregon ahead of NCAA sanctions.
The school was accused of paying 7-on-7 coach Will Lyles to funnel players to Oregon. The 18-month show-cause penalty Kelly was slapped with for “failing to monitor” the program’s compliance expired in 2014. Therefore Kelly, nor whichever school hires him, will be subjected to further restrictions or penalties related to the Lyles case.
