The charges are too light.
This is a hate crime and this psychotic woman needs to spend at least 20 years in jail.
A University of Hartford student’s bullying behavior toward her roommate exploded on social media, prompting a message on Tuesday from the university president that bullying and other abuses will not be tolerated.
Brianna Rae Brochu, 18, was arrested on Saturday and charged with third-degree criminal mischief and second-degree breach of peace. Brochu, of Harwinton, was released without having to post bail and is scheduled to appear in Hartford Community Court on Wednesday.
Police say Brochu admitted to licking her roommate’s dining utensils and smearing bodily fluid on the other woman’s backpack.
The victim told West Hartford police that since the beginning of the school year “she has felt ostracized by Brochu” and that Brochu generally ignored her and that she asked to change rooms, according to police reports.
On Oct. 17, the victim started moving her belongings into her new room and was approached by one of her neighbors, who said she saw some “very concerning posts”on Brochu’s Instagram page, police said. The posts appeared to show Brochu “bragging about how she tampered with [the victim’s] personal items,” police said.
One Instagram post was captioned: “Finally did it yo girl got rid of her roommate!! After 1 ½ month of spitting in her coconut oil, putting moldy clam dip in her lotions… putting her toothbrush places where the sun doesn’t shine, and so much more I can finally say goodbye Jamaican Barbie.”
The victim is black; Brochu is white. Police did not charge Brochu with a hate crime, but Woodward wrote in his campuswide message that the incident “has brought about accusations of racism, and I want you to know that I hear and share your anger and frustration.
Once again if this isn’t a hate crime, I am not sure what is, but normally if a black person is involved they will always try to downplay it. Here is a statement from the school on expelling her.
Dear University of Hartford Community,
I am writing to provide further updates on the deeply disturbing situation involving our students. As of this morning, Brianna Brochu is no longer a student at the University of Hartford. She will not be returning to the institution.
There has been an outpouring of concern for the victim of these acts from across the University and the country. In my meeting with her yesterday, I reiterated my personal commitment to ensuring she has all available personal and academic resources the University can provide.
As I said yesterday, the University took action immediately once these allegations were brought to our attention. University Public Safety was first notified and responded to this incident at 11:48 p.m. on October 17. The reprehensible conduct of the involved student was not known by the victim or the University until that time. By 1:12 a.m. the West Hartford Police Department was notified and processes for legal and University conduct began. A no-contact order was put into place and the case was turned over to local authorities by 2:16 a.m.
