Some people take sports way too seriously. Dwan Lamont Marshall Jr was so frustrated with the officials refereeing his sister’s high school basketball game, he walked onto the court and punched one of them. Marshall Jr. was arrested and charged with assault and disorderly conduct.
The incident began when referee Dallas Bryant yelled at Marshall’s sister for not handing him the ball correctly and continued to anger fans including Marhsall Jr, by making bad calls during the game.
Marshall’s father Dwan Marshal Sr., told police that referee Dallas Bryant threatened to make him watch the game from the parking lot if he kept arguing. The last straw according to Marshall Sr. was when he heard Bryant allegedly whisper “I bet you won’t be discussing no elbow call in the parking lot.”
Bryant was attacked by Marshall Jr. shortly after but expressed regret later.
I regret punching the ref in the face. It was an emotional response. I shouldn’t have done it. I’m sorry,” Marshall Jr. said.
Referee Dallas Bryant was transported to a local hospital, the game was postponed and fans were evacuated from the facility. Dwan Lamont Marshall Jr. is scheduled to appear in court on February 28th.
