After Saying It Wasn’t a Racial Incident, Applebee’s Under Public Pressure Reverses Course & Fires Everyone Who Racially Profiled Two Black Women

Three Applebees employees, involved in a racial profiling incident caught on camera, have been fired.

Mic.com reports that Alexis Brison’s viral Facebook video, featuring a police officer asking that she and her companion leave a Missouri Applebees because they ‘dined and dashed’ at the same establishment before the day before, lead to three employees being terminated.

Speaking to Mic, a representative for Applebees issued the following statement.

“The franchisee terminated the manager, server and another employee involved in the incident,” an Applebee’s spokesperson wrote in an emailed statement to Mic Monday evening. “We do not tolerate racism, bigotry or harassment of any nature, and we have taken additional steps to close the restaurant at this time in order for the team there to regroup, reflect, learn and grow from this.”

Brison and her companion can be heard on the video asking what proof did the restaurant have that they were the patrons that ‘dined and dashed’ to which they were told, “a skinny girl and a girl with make-up.” Brison responded that the accusation was racial profiling.

As the pair became increasingly upset by the accusation, the officer responding to the call told the young women,

“You should get my good side,” and, “Make sure you spell my name right.”

“You guys are getting worked up for nothing,” the officer added.

Applebee’s corporate took the incident seriously.

“We are reaching out to the guests involved to apologize directly,” the company’s spokesperson wrote in an email. “We know rebuilding trust with those affected by the incident will take time, and we look forward to finding resolution in the coming days.”
