In light of the many discoveries within the FBI’s probe of the NCAA, many within sports are now starting to examine the ramifications of what has been transpiring in the background for so long. It appears that the narrative of the NCAA being an altruistic entity solely concerned for amateurism and the student-athlete is starting to erode. For years former college players, along with several sports pundits have called out the NCAA for its hypocrisy for having an amateurism stance, yet making billion off the backs of its players. Former Fab Five member Jalen Rose has been on the forefront of this criticism, arguing for players to get paid for their money and prestige they bring to their schools. With the investigative report pretty much-confirming everything he’s been saying, Rose has now called for college players to make their voices be heard by boycotting this year’s NCAA March Madness Tournament.
He’s right. It’s time players recognize the power that they have and send a direct message to NCAA.
