Boston Celtics point guard and former NBA Champion Kyrie Irving will undergo a procedure on his injured left knee this Saturday. This was reported today by Shams Charania NBA Insider for Yahoo Sports. While many fans automatically penciled him out this season (me included) the details from the Celtics allude otherwise.

Minor procedure for Kyrie Irving to "alleviate irritation in his left knee," Celtics say. https://t.co/ojdYeKzN54

While the language of the procedure brings more air to the side of precaution, purely to “alleviate irritation” I am not so sure it is that simple. Kyrie Irving has had this same questionable left knee problem for a couple of years now, it sidelined him during the 2015 NBA Finals. Kyrie was supposed to be back this week, but that didn’t happen. The Celtics are hoping this minor procedure will speed up the recovery process and he will be back before playoffs.
Kyrie had threatened to sit out the season with knee surgery if the Cavs didn’t trade him.
