Late Saturday night, a Sacramento County Sheriff’s Vehicle struck a demonstrator that was protesting the shooting death of Stephon Clark.
The woman that was hit was carrying a sign that read: Stephon Clark Rest in Power.
The woman suffered minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital following the incident.
Sacramento County sent out Sheriff’s Spokesman Sgt. Shaun Hampton to offer the police’s obligatory lie and/or contradiction of the events, in spite of the fact that we have an actual video.
The collision occurred while the patrol vehicle was traveling at slow speeds.
Except, in the video, the Sheriff’s Vehicle creates its own non-existent path, by driving through the center of the protesters, and appears to visibly accelerate right before the woman steps in front of the Sheriff’s Vehicle.
Also, about 8 seconds prior to the collision, the Deputy inside the Vehicle repeatedly tells protestors to back away from his car, from his loudspeaker.
So at the very least, the Deputy should have had the common decency to NOT accelerate the vehicle in the middle of several protestors to avoid any accidents because by his own admissions on his own loudspeaker, the Deputy knew that there were numerous bystanders outside of the vehicle that could be injured.
But that’s probably too much to ask out of Sacramento’s finest.
Sgt. Hampton went on to detail the physical condition of the Sheriff’s Vehicle, as opposed to the medical condition of the woman that the Sheriff’s Vehicle ran over.
Hampton said the Sheriff’s Vehicle had scratches, dents, and a shattered rear window following the collision, adding:
The damage to the vehicle was not a result of the collision involving the pedestrian but was caused by vandals in the crowd.
Apparently, in Sacramento, this justifies the police running over you with a car…
