The Miami Heat’s season came to a quick end last night after a 104-91 loss to the red-hot Philadelphia 76ers. Hassan Whiteside had an awful night and did not play in the fourth quarter. Issues have arose between Whiteside and Head Coach Eric Spoelstra since Game 3. Whiteside addressed how he’s seeing less minutes and said that Spoelstra “wants me to just be in the corner and set pick.”
In Game 5, Whiteside only played 10 minutes and totaled two points on 0/4 shooting, and five rebounds. He didn’t see the fourth quarter and he let his frustration know, per Ira Winderman of the Sun Sentinal.
“At least give me a chance to fight,” said Whiteside. “At least give me a chance to fight. I can understand if I was playing 30 minutes and I played bad. At least give me a chance.”
Whiteside also said there was no explanation given to him by Spoelstra for not playing in the fourth quarter. According to Whiteside, this is just one example of the many up and downs he’s experienced in Miami this season. The focal points of the issues were with Spoelstra and Heat President Pat Riley, per the Sun Sentinal.
Whiteside averaged only five points and six rebounds per game in the series vs the Sixers. Only time will tell if he can revert back to his dominant form again.
