The NBA confirmed that Justise Winslow was fined for purposely stepping on Joel Embiid’s facemask. The incident happened in the second quarter of the Sixers’ Game 3 win over the Heat per Ian Begley after Embiid’s goggles fell to the floor during Thursday’s game in Miami.
Sixers coach Brett Brown didn’t have an issue with Winslow’s action and said that it’s part of the intensity of the playoffs.
“He kept throwing [his mask] on the ground. I don’t know if he didn’t like it or what,” Winslow said. “I was talking to JoJo, we were smack-talking, trash-talking, going back and forth, but no love loss.”
Embiid had to wear the protective mask due to his fractured orbital bone, which kept him sidelined for Philadelphia’s last ten games.
Winslow was fined $15 000 for intentionally stepping on the mask.
