Los Angeles Chargers head coach Anthony Lynn has earned his college degree almost three decades since he left college. ESPN Eric Williams reported that Lynn left his alma mater Texas Tech 6 credits short of graduating with his exercise science degree in 1992.
Lynn walked across the stage in his graduation ceremony at UNLV with a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary science. According to ESPN, in attendance to witness the ceremony were Lynn’s mother, Betty Jackson; his wife, Stacey; his daughter, Danielle Lynn; Chargers chairman Dean Spanos; and Spanos’ wife, Susie.
Lynn mentions that:
“Football has always been my No. 1 priority,” Lynn said. “Sometimes that’s good, sometimes that’s bad. But I chose football over education, and I kind of did that a few years later when I had a chance to go back; I chose football again over education.
“And so at this time, I thought at some point, no more excuses — just go back and get it done.”
Always great to see an individual accomplish a goal which was left unfinished. ESPN reported that Lynn was initially encouraged to return to school during his time with the Jets, when he learned that the team chaplain Dave Szott earned his degree 15 years after leaving college. Congratulations to head coach Antony Lynn on becoming a college graduate.
