According to ESPN, ex-Raptors coach Dwane Casey has signed a five-year head coaching agreement with the Detroit Pistons this morning for a rumored $7 million a year. Dwane Casey was last season’s NBA Coach of the Year after a 59-win season with the Toronto Raptors, breaking the record for most wins by the Raptors in one season. Casey also led the Raptors to the finals conference for the first time in the franchise’s history. Unfortunately, Casey was later fired by the Raptors for consecutive losses against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Despite this tragic end to Casey leading the Toronto Raptors, the Detroit Pistons hope that Casey and their recent acquisition of Blake Griffinwill lead the team to be a contending force in the Eastern Conference next season.
An introductory news conference is planned for next week to give Casey time to enjoy his Father’s Day and have a preliminary meeting with the players.
