Two Georgia police officers are on leave pending the outcome of an investigation after they were caught on camera using a coin-flip to determine whether or not they would arrest a woman for allegedly speeding.
An investigation conducted by NBC 11 Alive found that Officers Courtney Brown and Kristee Wilson pulled over Sarah Webb for speeding past a Roswell cruiser. Although they didn’t have speed detection instruments on hand, and Webb had no prior tickets, they decided to use a coin flip app to decide whether or not she should be let go with a warning.
Officer Wilson: “A (arrest) head, R (release) tail.”
Officer Brown: “OK (sound of coin flip app).”
Officer Wilson: “This is tail right?”
Officer Brown: “Yeah. So release?”
Officer Wilson: “23 (code for arrest).”
Officer Brown: “Michael Jordan? (laugh). Alright, so I’ve got too fast (laugh) for conditions, reckless…”
Webb, unaware of the coin flip, was then handcuffed and placed in the back of the police cruiser. After investigators reviewed the footage, Webb was made aware of what happened and charges were dismissed. The officers were not placed on leave until 11 Alive began their investigation despite the incident taking place in April.
