Imagine the best boss you ever had at a crappy job plus a few cool workers with outside drama and you have the latest offering from Magnolia Films, Support the Girls.
The story center around Lisa (Regina Hall), the general manager of Double Whammies, a sports bar much like Hooters or Twin Peaks where scantily dressed waitresses take center stage. Caring and supportive of her staff, at times to her own detriment, Lisa reaches a point where she has to make the choice between supporting the young ladies on her staff or reinvesting in herself and making self-preservation a priority.
Written and Directed by Andrew Bujalski, Support the Girls isn’t meant to be a feminist/union call-to-action film with burning bras but the shared stories of a group of women who exist in the lower-middle class faction of society who simply want employers to genuinely care about them as people and not just commodities.
Rounding out the Cast of talented performers are Haley Lu Richardson (The Edge of Seventeen), Dylan Gelula (Chasing Life), Shayna McHayle “Junglepussy”
Support the Girls opens on August 24 in theaters.
