Sixers President Bryan Colangelo resigned this summer in the midst of the team finding out that his wife Barbara Bottini admitted that she was behind multiple Twitter accounts and bashing players such as Joel Embiid. Embiid was accused of hiding injuries, having tantrums and being arrogant. Initially, it was Bryan who was suspected of using the accounts but Barbara later spoke up. She also went in on Embiid for dancing at a Meek Mill show while hurt.
Embiid is now speaking up about the whole incident as he appeared on ESPN. He said that the tweets did bother him but he knows who he is as a person and player.
“At the end of the day, I know who I am as a person, as a player. And I know a lot of people, they’re always telling me I’m great but I have a lot of stuff to work on. And actually, I appreciated everything that was said about me because if it was true – even if it wasn’t – that stays in my mind. And it makes me want to get better. The stuff where they were saying I wasn’t happy, that makes me want to work harder on my body. Or if they’re saying that I couldn’t do anything, it makes me want to work harder and get better. So, actually, I love it. I appreciated it. It was great. It was great for my game.”
It’s good to see that Embiid is using those hurtful words to better himself on and off the court. The Sixers have a bright future as they are surrounded with young stars and Embiid is the focal point of their organization.
