This is getting flat-out exhausting.
In the latest edition of what seems like a never-ending news stream of reports of blatant instances of racism occurring all across this country, it looks like a young group of black girls just trying to enjoy their summer camp trip are the newest victims.
Via, the Daily Mail:
“A group of black school girls on a summer camp in New Jersey were asked to leave an aquarium gift shop on Friday by a store owner who said they were ‘not welcome’ without a chaperone.
The incident happened at Jenkinson’s Aquarium Gift Shop at Point Pleasant Beach, New Jersey, on Friday when four girls from Princess to Queenz day camp in Paterson entered the store after touring the aquarium.”
When the girls went and retrieved their camp director, they were met with more insults & the camp director herself, Attiyya Barret, was told by Linda (the shop worker) that she didn’t believe the chaperone was a chaperone.
Yes, you read that right.
There’s nothing wrong with a store owner not wanting a group of children in their store unsupervised, however, there is something quite amiss when the group of kids you attempt to kick out are all black & you then allow white children to shop without a worry…with no chaperone:
“The girls, all of whom are aged 12 or 13, were promptly told they were not welcome inside without an adult chaperone.
When they returned with one of the chaperones from the camp, they say they were ‘yelled at’ while other white children in the store were allowed to browse without supervision.”
The video of the entire sickening exchange can be seen on the following page. Before you click, think about the impression this experience will leave on the CHILDREN who had to be chastised like they were criminals while just trying to enjoy themselves.
I would say this is another instance of us needing to watch where we spend our money as black people, but I think were all out of places to boycott at this point.
