College of the Ozarks, a small Christian college with 1,400 undergraduates which requires their freshmen to take a course in “Patriotic Education and Fitness”, and who also refuse to play other universities who kneel during the national anthem, have stepped up their ‘patriotism’ by boycotting Nike. Nike has just unveiled their campaign for the 30th anniversary of their slogan “Just Do It”, which will have Colin Kaepernick serving as its face and main spokesman.
Former NFL quarterback Kaepernick is currently out of work as NFL owners refuse to consider signing him to their teams. Many see NFL ownership’s decision regarding Kaepernick is related to his silent protest against racial injustice and police brutality. College of the Ozarks is apparently taking a stand against Nike for
“…promoting an attitude of division and disrespect toward America.”
“If Nike is ashamed of America, we are ashamed of them,” Davis went on. “We also believe that those who know what sacrifice is all about are more likely to be wearing a military uniform than an athletic uniform.”
It looks like College of the Ozarks will probably need to order from New Balance and Payless for their sports teams for the upcoming season. The college is a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).
